Another wander through the forest, this time along the Pequi Trail in Brazil.
There was plenty to look at, as there always is in a forest, but something very small caught my attention.
And I mean small.
I very nearly walked straight past it.
Clinging to a stem was one of the strangest little spiders I’d ever seen.
An Amazon thorn spider.
Long black legs, a vivid green body decorated with black markings, and these extraordinary orange-tipped projections sticking out in different directions.
What an amazing little creature.
I stopped for a closer look, fascinated by its unusual shape and colouring.
No dramatic encounter. No elaborate behaviour to photograph.
Just a tiny spider going about its business, looking as though somebody had assembled it from spare parts.
So I took a photograph and carried on exploring.
Sometimes the most extraordinary things are the ones you almost miss.
