While volunteering at Reserva Betary, I spent a fair bit of my spare time wandering around the ponds.
Before starting work, after finishing my duties, or sometimes during a lunch break, I’d head out to see what was happening.
There was always something to discover. Fish, frogs, birds, butterflies and all sorts of other little residents going about their business.
Including these three.
Black-bellied sliders.
They’d found themselves a rather small rock in one of the ponds and apparently decided it was quite big enough for all of them.
Three turtles, three shells, three little heads sticking out in the same direction.
Not exactly luxurious accommodation.
But nobody seemed particularly bothered by the lack of space.
I couldn’t help smiling at the arrangement. There was something wonderfully comical about these three sharing their little patch above the water.
So I took a photograph and carried on exploring.
Three turtles. One rock. Apparently, room for one more was not required.
